DJ NUKIE D

Born Bengazzi Ben Hyder in Sandakan, Sabah on the 9th of February 1977, he has been enthralled by music ever since he was a little boy listening to his uncle’s records and tapes of the Beatles, the Doors, Elvis Presley and then growing up in that wonderfully weird and wonderful time known as the 80s. Depeche Mode, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson and many more crowded his tape deck during this time.

Through his early teen years he was involved with the dance groups of the day and was engrossed in the music that best presented and represented this lifestyle.  It was especially during this time that he was heavily influenced by R&B, Hip Hop and Rap music. Beastie Boys, Naughty By Nature, Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, R Kelly, PM Dawn (no kidding he bought that album with his own pocket money), Bobby Brown, New Edition and many many more were stacked on the CD player.

Having always been involved with performing and music whether up front or in the background spinning the tunes, these early experiences culminated into his career as a DJ, and his involvement in the collaboration of musicians and performers known then as the Projectz evolved into the Kinabalu Kings. Comprising of Johnnie Blacq, Keith “Special K” and Nukie D himself, they have been performing and releasing music for the better part of the last decade.

DJ Nukie D learnt his craft as a DJ the hard way, the technical know how he picked up from Special K who had returned from the United States with his mixing equipment and the practical know how came from playing anywhere that would take him.  Some of the places that he has graced the DJ box include The Retro Club, Bourgeois, The Cottage, Cocoon, Blue Note, Avex Dance Bar, Havok Dance Bar, Tropical Fun Pub, Popin and he is currently the in house DJ for D’Junction.  Besides various clubs, pubs and dance halls, he regularly DJs events, launch parties, weddings and parties (no funerals please).
Experience and a genuine love for music has enabled him to play Retro (70s,80s,90s), R&B Hip Hop, House Music, Breakbeats and if pushed can manage a happening Rock set.
